Without knowing the backstory, I’d suggest « kid » might be out of character – « child » would be more likely to be used by someone used to having a butler select their clothes.

« That’s the same old recipe » is a little awkward, but I’m not sure what to suggest – « same old » usually suggests something that still hasn’t been improved. Possibly « Can’t beat [the/my] old recipe »
